"There's a lot of discouragement about supporting women's health right now and funding women's health," says Samantha Miller, co-founder and CEO of Cadence OTC. The Oakland, California-based company, which provides over-the-counter emergency contraceptives and has been developing over-the-counter birth control pills, has raised $35 million to date. "Maybe it's not the right time to fund on the political side, but it's definitely the right time to increase funding for private companies, because really we need commercial, market-driven solutions to these reproductive health issues now more than ever before."
